We drink like cows

مرتعی سرابی را

قحطی است و می‌دانیم

It’s a drought and we know

گریه غرق خواهد کرد

that the tears will drown

اسب‌های آبی را

the hippopotamuses

هم درشت و غمگینیم

We’re large and sad

هم سیاه و بدبینیم

We’re both black and pessimistic

هم برای آبادی قطره‌ای نمی‌باریم

We don’t rain a drop for prosperity

هم نگه نمی‌داریم حرمت خرابی را

And we don’t respect the destruction

شب که می‌شود خوابیم

When the night falls, we’re asleep

صبح و ظهر هم خوابیم

and we’re asleep in the morning and at noon

عصر هم که تا شب خواب

and (we’re asleep) in the afternoon until night

شب دوباره تا شب خواب

and from night to night again

توی خواب می‌بینیم

(While asleep), we dream of

روز آفتابی را

a sunny day

خوب… خوب و خوشبختیم

Good…we’re good and happy

خشک و سفت و سرسختیم

We’re rigid, tough, and stubborn

ما در اوج تنهایی

At the peak of loneliness

چون زنان هرجایی

like loose women

خوب خوب می‌دانیم

we know it quite well

راه دوست‌یابی را

how to find friends

گاو، اسب، انسانیم

We’re cows, horses, human beings

حافظان عرفانیم

We’re the keepers of true knowledge

حامیان زن هستیم

We’re supporters of women

بندگان تن هستیم

We‘re slaves to (our) bodies

پاس پاس می‌داریم

We guard, guard

عشق رختخوابی را

the love in the bed

علم درنوردیده

Conquered science

ساختار پیچیده

Complex system

جاهلان فهمیده

Ignorant scholars

ما ربات‌ها روزی

Will we, robots,

درک می‌کنیم آیا

understand one day

فهم اکتسابی را؟

the acquired knowledge?

مفلسیم در خوردن

We‘re poor in eating

ممسکیم در مردن

We’re stingy in dying

ما که از خسیسان

Will we, being among the tightfisted

و جمله کاسه لیسانیم

and the flatterers,

ترک می‌کنیم آیا

leave this habit of

این گدامآبی را؟

behaving like beggars?

رخت بخت پوشیدیم

We had the wedding attire on

مثل گاو نوشیدیم

We drank like cows

مثل اسب کوشیدیم

We strove like horses

مثل اشک جوشیدیم

We boiled like tears

گریه غرق کرد آنگاه

And the tears then drowned

اسب‌های آبی را

the hippopotamuses

خوب… خوب و خوشبختیم

Good…we’re good and happy

خشک و سفت و سرسختیم

We’re rigid, tough, and stubborn

ما در اوج تنهایی

فاضلیم در دانش

ارج می‌نهیم اما
