Biomedical data science is an interdisciplinary field combining biology, statistics, and computer science. Over the past two decades, this field has undergone rapid evolution, driven by the increasing availability of high throughput omics data, advancements in computational power, and a growing demand for reproducibility and interpretability in research. This book is not intended to be a comprehensive technical manual; instead, it emphasises the fundamental principles of effective biomedical research. We guide the reader from the initial stages of experimental planning to advanced modelling techniques, using real-world examples and minimal jargon to make the contents accessible to readers coming from various disciplines. The final hands-on chapter provides a practical guide, illustrating how the methods discussed throughout the book can be incorporated into a cohesive and reproducible workflow.
