1.1 SYNTHESIS OF CARBON NANOTUBE (CNT) SCAFFOLDS
CNTs are a nano-allotropic form of carbon. The atoms crosslink, forming sheets of six-membered carbon atom rings (graphite) that wrap around themselves to form a cylindrical needle-like structure. They have been broadly classified as single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). Without modifications, CNTs tend to be hydrophobic, so that surface modifications become essential to enhance their functionality in in-vivo systems.
