This work is not a theory of mind, nor a proposal for reform. It does not advance a model of behavior, cognition, emotion, or self. It does not recommend methods, interventions, or outcomes. Its purpose is narrower and more prior. This work articulates the minimal structural commitments that psychology and psychiatry already presuppose in order to function as disciplines at all. These commitments are rarely stated explicitly. They are instead distributed across practices, conventions, caveats, and informal judgments. When left implicit, they permit conceptual drift, category error, and a recurring class of inadmissible explanatory moves: the substitution of outcomes, authority, or narrative coherence for structural explanation. The canons presented here are offered as constraints, not destinations. They do not tell psychology what to study, which theories to adopt, or which practices to prefer. They specify only the conditions under which claims, constructs, and explanations may count as psychological in the first place. Their role is not to generate insight, but to block specific classes of structurally inadmissible moves—those that reliably produce conceptual drift, category error, or level collapse. Accordingly, the success of this work is not measured by agreement, adoption, or practical impact. It is measured by whether it renders specific classes of conceptual error structurally impossible—by making certain moves inadmissible regardless of their popularity, effectiveness, or intuitive appeal. These canons are pre-theoretical and framework-neutral. They operate upstream of method, mechanism, clinical judgment, and normative evaluation. They do not compete with existing schools of thought, nor do they attempt to reconcile them. They instead establish a shared boundary within which disagreement can occur without collapsing into equivocation or authority. This work is written in the spirit of a principia: not of mathematics, but of a science that has long relied on implicit foundations without naming them. It does not ask to be believed. It asks only to be applied—or rejected—on structural grounds.
