“My parent has dementia. It’s a brain disorder . . . and it’s making me crazy.”
Millions of people can identify with that statement, although they might feel guilty saying it out loud. As life expectancies have rapidly increased, the number of people who live long enough to experience Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia has grown enormously. More and more adult children find themselves having to deal with parents who are losing their memories and their ability to function in the world.
