(A Topical Study of the Qur’an)
“Most truth’s are so naked that people feel sorry for them and cover them up, at least a little bit.” Edward R. Murrow
There are roughly a half dozen references to Islamic religious texts within this book that are not taken from the Quran, Sahih al-Bukhari or Sahih Muslim. When alternate resources are used, it is clearly noted and the reason for such a reference is indicated directly in the text or within the context. Only well established and frequently used resources have been allowed.
The topical indexes of the Quran and Hadith attached to end of this book are heavily influenced by the work of M.J. Fisher. Most quotations within the index, from the Quran, have been taken from his freely available work, A Topical Study of the Qur’an. Many thanks to Fisher for this excellent work. It’s hoped that these selected quotations found by Fisher will assist you in your study of the Quran. Please find and read his outstanding book.
The topical index also draws heavily from the work of a pseudonymous contributor to the Answering Islam website; Silas. He extensively indexed a number of topics from Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim for his personal use. While not without error (which even he recognized), Silas’s data (compiled at the very start of the century) was invaluable in forming an accurate picture of the contents of the hadith. You’ll find his work, often used extensively and verbatim, in the included topical index (with references corrected to avoid use of the USC MSA numbering system). Thank you Silas, your index was invaluable. I often do not agree with your conclusions, but you pioneering effort studying Islam has undoubtedly opened the door for many thinkers coming after you.
This book could not have been accomplished without the work of countless, often anonymous, men and women, sometimes at direct (and realized) risk to themselves. They do it out of a deep love and obedience to God and while they will not all be mentioned here, it is hoped that any reader understands that this book could not exist without centuries of translators, historians, evangelists, researchers, debaters, teachers and scholars. I’ll take a fifth of the credit for what you read here and leave the remaining 80% of the credit to these brilliant and tireless men and women. All errors are mine, but the marrow in the bones, the meat on them and the blood that brings life to the words of this book are theirs.
