بنى‌آدم اعضای یک پیکرند

Human beings are limbs of one body indeed;

که در آفرینش ز یک گوهرند

For, they’re created of the same soul and seed.

چو عضوى به درد آورَد روزگار

When one limb is afflicted with pain,

دگر عضوها را نمانَد قرار

Other limbs will feel the bane.

تو کز محنت دیگران بی‌غمی

He who has no sympathy for human suffering,

نشاید که نامت نهند آدمی

Is not worthy of being called a human being.
