This monograph marks the culmination of a long journey that began almost a decade ago with the publication of Reti di storie, the first Italian edition of In Geschichten verstrickt. Since then, the path has been shaped by conferences, publications, collaborations, and, above all, by meaningful encounters and fruitful exchanges. Each of these moments has been special in its own way; yet some have proven decisive. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Daniele De Santis for his steadfast support and invaluable advice over the years. If Wilhelm Schapp can today also be internationally appreciated for his contribution to early phenomenology, much of the credit is due to him. I am also deeply grateful to Martin Leiner and Francesco Ferrari, whose encouragement and support made it possible for this project to take shape, and through whom I came to grasp the scope of Schapp’s thought within socio-political studies and reconciliation research during my time at the Jena Center for Reconciliation Studies. A special word of thanks is also owed to Markus Pohlmeyer, who has been a constant interlocutor and whose theoretical acumen has profoundly influenced this work. The same can be said of Gianfranco Pecchinenda, to whom, beyond personal inspiration, we owe the first genuine sociological engagement with Schapp’s thought in Italy, as well as the impetus for the Italian translation of the Beiträge zur Phänomenologie der Wahrnehmung. In this regard, I am especially grateful to Jan Schapp for granting access to and guiding me through the vast unpublished material of his father. I will never forget the afternoons spent in his home in Aurich, filled with stories, but above all with an intense and rewarding philosophical exchange.
