“WHO’S THERE?”, yelled Lonnie, a slightly built, stooping man – a long- term resident at the nursing home I visited as a psychology graduate student. “GET OUT!”, he followed, standing in the middle of his small room, quickly becoming increasingly agitated. “I SAID GET OUT, GET OUT!” he snapped again, just in case I didn’t quite understand what he meant. I paused near the door and then withdrew quietly; defeated. I knew not to take Lonnie’s response personally, I had been warned that Lonnie yelled at everyone, but still, I had hoped I could somehow make it different.
