Code is read far more often than it is written. A solution may produce the correct result today, yet still become expensive and risky to maintain if its intent is unclear, its responsibilities are tangled, or its design makes change difficult. Clean code addresses these problems by making software easier to understand, test, extend, and refactor. Pragmatic Clean Code takes a practical approach to improving everyday code. Rather than presenting clean code as a rigid collection of rules, the book explains the reasoning behind each practice, shows the problems that arise when the practice is ignored, and demonstrate show to improve existing code through focused refactoring. The case studies allow you to compare an initial implementation with a cleaner version. You’ll see each refactoring step as it happens, along with the reasoning behind it.” The examples are written in C#, but the underlying ideas apply broadly to other programming languages, including Java, C++, JavaScript, and Python. The book does not teach programming from the beginning. Instead, it assumes that you can read basic code and focuses on helping you make that code clearer, more maintainable, and easier to test. The book begins with the foundations of clean code and progresses from names, methods, and formatting through the SOLID principles, static dependencies, class design and organization, coupling, cohesion, composition, comments, and testability. Throughout the book, concrete examples and refactoring case studies connect individual coding choices to the wider design of a software system.
