This book is a significantly expanded version of the book ‘Structural Mechanics of Plane Composite Laminates’ (in German ‘Strukturmechanik ebener Laminate’), which was pub-lished in 2016 by the Mechanics Department of the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany, in collaboration with my esteemed colleague Wilfried Becker. However, the fur-ther development of my teaching in the field of composites structures since the first edition was published has made a new edition necessary. In addition, the publishing house of the Mechanics Department of the Technical University of Darmstadt has ceased its work, so that alternative ways of distribution had to be found. In the course of revising this book, some significant new content was added, so that the title was adapted to ‘Mechanics of Composite Structures’. This significantly expanded version of the original book is a fur-ther contribution to a series of books on structural mechanics in lightweight engineering, which began with the book ‘Structural Mechanics in Lightweight Engineering’ and was continued with the two books ‘Theory of Plates and Shells’ and ‘Buckling of Beams, Plates and Shells’. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my colleague Wilfried Becker for his understanding of my wish to develop this book further on my own initiative. I would also like to thank the research assistants and students whose work forms the basis of some of the content of this book.
