This, the fourth edition of the two-volume set, Management and Supervisory Practices for Environmental Professionals has been written to reflect the massive changes in the world in the 25 years since the third edition came out in 1995. We now live in a world where with the touch of a finger to a handheld computer called a smartphone we can obtain information in an instant on virtually any topic. The problem is that information overload can become too prevalent, and in many ways, the information may be inaccurate, ineffective when used, or simply not pertinent enough to the task of managing and supervising programs and people to enable an effective response to a problem that we are attempting to solve.

Utilizing his 65 years of experience in the art of management and supervisory practices, and rec-ognizing that even though there are vast changes, some things have stayed the same, the author has spent an intensive year rewriting and adding new material to the two volumes to make sure that they will not only be up to date but can also be used into the far future. The co-author also has extensive experience, and she has very thoroughly reviewed and added to all the material as necessary.

One thing certainly has stayed the same: the excellent professional who is hard working, very knowledgeable, and full of enthusiasm will be promoted to a supervisor/manager position at some point and still will not have the necessary tools to perform the multitude of skills that are required to be successful.
