On late October, in an Alabama courtroom, 36-year-old Joran van der Sloot said the words Beth and Dave Holloway had been both dreading and desperate for when he admitted killing their daughter Natalee in 2005. The confession came as part of a plea deal after van der Sloot attempted to extort $250,000 from the family in return for telling them the location of Natalee’s remains. They have never been found. For Beth, it was the conclusion of two decades of torture, and she said, “It’s over. Joran van der Sloot is no longer the suspect in my daughter’s murder – he is the killer. After 18 years, Natalee’s case is solved.”
