This volume was the brainchild of Cynthia Fowler, who was inspired by a conference session she had hosted in Boston in September 2017 on the topic of transatlantic exchange between the United States and Ireland. As an historian of American art, she had acquired a strong interest in transatlantic connections between Ireland and the United States while developing a course on Irish art at Emmanuel College, Boston in 2010. This interest translated into a publication that focused on the display of Dun Emer textiles, the result of an unstable collaboration of Susan and Elizabeth Yeats
with Evelyn Gleeson, at two Irish fairs in New York in the first decade of the twentieth century.
