The mixing of immersive worlds and blockchain technology is energizing a new way for people to interact, socialize, buy and sell online and live digitally, especially the Metaverse [1, 2]. Thought of as always on, shared by everyone and distributed, the Metaverse unites the virtual world with the real world, so users can take part in many different activities using their avatars and digital selves. Blockchain forms the foundation for security, trust, connection between platforms, ownership and the whole economic organization in these virtual places [1–3]. The idea of the Metaverse is to allow people to interact with work, play, learning and trade while living in a virtual world. Nonetheless, having a decentralized vision means we need an infrastructure that allows owners to be fully in charge, ensures all decisions are transparent and looks after user privacy and control over their data. Though such platforms support building virtual environments (like Second Life and World of Warcraft do), they generally do not ensure user ownership, easy movement from one platform to another or openness in their economies. At this point, blockchain makes a difference by giving people a decentralized option instead of the traditional models [4–6]. Blockchain is a type of technology that stores transaction records safely, clearly and without change, using many computers connected on a network. Blockchain which was originally designed for cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, now supports a diverse range of decentralized uses [7]. In the Metaverse, blockchain offers digital ownership, verifies identity, handles smart contract systems, decentralized storage and token-based economies. All these parts add to the smooth operation and environmental consciousness of a decentralized Metaverse ecosystem [8, 9]. Figure 1 demonstrates some key areas where blockchain is used in the Metaverse to make important digital processes work. The key to the ecosystem is NFTs which give users real ownership of their digital prizes and land, verified by the system. Economic transactions are made easier by using virtual currencies and NFTs are used for buying assets. Having self-identity authentication allows users to protect their information and right over what they buy or use. All of these components are linked so that users in such systems can freely trade, own and confirm assets and identities [10].
