Everything that can be automated within an organization should be automated—this is the essence of the definition of hyper automation, one of the most significant strategic technology trends of 2021 according to the market research firm Gartner. However, the desire for rationalization is not a new phenomenon in business; it has existed since the beginnings of technical production and finds its origins in the modern developments of the nineteenth century. Both industrialization and mechanization in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, as well as digitalization over the past two decades, have contributed to making processes increasingly effective and efficient. In today’s Industry 4.0, this process optimization is referred to as automation and serves as a key component in business, enabling organizations to achieve their objectives with qualitatively and quantitatively better results than with non-automated business processes. Automation is also indispensable in desktop publishing (DTP). However, many companies and users are either unaware of or only slightly familiar with the wide range of automation possibilities available in the field of DTP. The present book, Robotic Process Automation (RPA) in Desktop Publishing, aims to _ill this gap, focusing on repetitive artwork processes in prepress production. As an experienced media designer, I was fascinated by the opportunities that programming opened up in DTP. Tasks that once took hours could suddenly be completed in seconds. This impressive efficiency sparked my curiosity and ultimately led me to explore this subject in greater depth. This book is the result of that exploration and represents an expanded version of its predecessor of the same name from the Springer essentials series. It addresses a broad audience, including media designers, software developers, information technology (IT) system administrators, and IT decision-makers, and provides readers with a wealth of insights on DTP automation.
