Driven by the ongoing energy transition, the high penetration of renewable energy sources is fundamentally reshaping the dynamic characteristics of modern power systems. The inherent variability of wind and photovoltaic generation, the reduction in synchronous inertia associated with converter-interfaced resources, the fast and multiscale dynamics of power electronic devices, and the complex coupling among generation, grid infrastructure, loads, and energy storage systems pose substantial challenges to conventional modeling, stability analysis, and control methodologies. Concurrently, these developments are accelerating the evolution of power networks toward lower-carbon, more distributed, and increasingly converter dominated architectures. Within this transformation, microgrids have become an important and flexible architecture for integrating and coordinating distributed generation, energy storage systems, and local loads. Their distributed structure enables the coordinated utilization of decentralized resources but also imposes increasingly stringent requirements on control performance, communication, and system-level coordination. Local feedback loops and linearized models remain indispensable for device level regulation; however, they often need to be complemented by distributed control frameworks capable of supporting multi-node coordination, system-wide performance optimization, and enhanced dynamic resilience. Additional challenges arise from the growing penetration of p ower electronic loads, including electric vehicle charging systems, industrial motor drives, and artificial intelligence data centers. Depending on their converter controls and operating conditions, these loads may exhibit constant-power characteristics, nonlinear dynamics, rapid demand variations, and strong interactions with network and energy storage dynamics. These features motivate the development of more advanced, systematic, and robust control methodologies. To address these challenges, this monograph introduces the fully actuated system (FAS) approach as a powerful control-oriented modeling and controller design framework for renewable power systems. The FAS methodology provides a systematic complement to conventional state-space and nonlinear control approaches and is particularly well suited to systems with nonlinear, coupled, and heterogeneous dynamics. Starting from the original physical and controllevel models, it constructs fully actuated representations that expose the actuation structure of selected input–output or regulation-error dynamics. With its mathematical foundations in differential equations and differential geometric control theory, particularly in the use of diffeomorphic transformations, the FAS approach offers distinctive theoretical advantages and provides a powerful framework for engineering control applications. Under appropriate structural and feasibility conditions, these representations provide substantial flexibility in assigning desired closed-loop characteristics and can greatly simplify controller synthesis and stability analysis. Compared with conventional trial-and-error design procedures, the FAS approach can reduce reliance on heuristic parameter tuning by establishing a more direct relationship between controller parameters and desired dynamic performance. It also facilitates the development of controllers with transparent structures, flexible parameter configurations, and strong extensibility to predictive, learning-based, distributed, and resilient control. These features make the FAS methodology a particularly promising theoretical and engineering tool for the modeling and control of contemporary renewable power systems. The particular value of the FAS methodology for renewable power systems lies in its ability to establish a direct and structured connection between physicalsystem dynamics, control objectives, and closed-loop controller design. Converterinterfaced renewable power systems commonly involve heterogeneous component dynamics, nonlinear operating characteristics, hierarchical control loops, and distributed interactions among generation, networks, loads, and energy storage units. Within this context, FAS representations provide systematic means of reorganizing complex and coupled dynamics into forms that are more transparent and tractable for controller synthesis. This feature can facilitate the coordinated treatment of voltage, frequency, current, and power regulation objectives while supporting the integration of predictive, learning-based, distributed, and resilient control mechanisms. More importantly, the FAS approach offers a coherent methodological perspective rather than an isolated controller design technique. By retaining the relevant physical structure of the original system while exposing additional freedom for assigning selected closed-loop dynamics, it provides a promising bridge between advanced nonlinear control theory and practical power electronic applications. Its extensibility across different converter configurations, operating conditions, and control layers makes it particularly attractive for renewable power systems, whose structures and control requirements continue to evolve rapidly. Accordingly, a central purpose of this monograph is not merely to present a collection of individual control algorithms, but to demonstrate how FAS-based modeling can provide a common foundation for the systematic analysis, design, and coordination of modern renewable power systems.
