The first edition of Conn’s Current Therapy was published in 1948, and starting with that first edition, the goal of Conn’s has been to provide a personal and evidence- based approach to management of medical conditions. Each chapter is “the method of” the author(s)—a curbside consult, if you will. Conn’s, with each of its chapters, represents thousands upon thousands of hours of cumulative clinical expertise. A quarter of the way through the 21st century, Conn’s continues to be a trusted and comprehensive resource. The authors, editorial team, and production staff are committed to continued excellence and accuracy of each edition. As the workforce in medicine and society has become more globally connected and conscious, we are pleased to note that Conn’s has not only changed with the medical times but also with the changes in demography. Current authors hail from across the United States and abroad, from academic institutions, community programs, and private practice. Authors represent a vast array of backgrounds and experiences. Speaking of global, Conn’s continues to update chapters on the rapidly evolving epidemiology of zoonoses and infectious diseases such as Lyme disease, babesios, Mpox, and dengue fever. As many children born during the COVID- 19 pandemic began kindergarten in 2025, we could not help but consider the reemergence of vaccine- preventable infectious diseases, some of which most practicing clinicians in the United States have not encountered in their practice. The first vaccine for rubeola did not come into wide use until 1968, 20 years after the first edition of Conn’s was published. After years of being essentially eradicated as a public health threat, the reemergence of rubeola in the United States is a sobering fact. Throughout its 78- year history, Conn’s has continued to evolve to meet the needs of our readers. In the 2026 edition, our newest chapter is “Home Disaster Preparedness.” Other chapters added in the last few years include “Artificial Intelligence,” “Genomic Testing,” “Monoclonal Antibodies,” “Venomous Snakebite,” “Gender- Affirming Care,” “COVID- 19,” “Post- COVID Syndrome,” “Post- COVID- 19 Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome,” and “Mpox.” As we noted in last year’s preface, the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) requires a brief note. Elsevier, the publishers of Conn’s, has a policy on the use of AI, part of which states that authors are not permitted to use AI to create content. However, AI can be used to improve readability, and authors are required to note if this has been done in their chapter. The Preface also serves as a chance for us to share acknowledgments and gratitude to the entire team that makes Conn’s possible. It indeed takes a team to bring Conn’s to fruition each and every year. We’d like to first thank the hundreds of authors from across medical specialties who have a wide variety of experiences. Their work to write and edit their chapters so they remain accurate and timely each year is indispensable. Our gratitude certainly goes out to the one and only exceptional Pharmacy Editor, Miriam Chan, Pharm D. Dr. Chan has been part of the team since 2001. She reviews every drug dose and mention in the text for FDA status and accuracy. The team at Elsevier is organized and outstanding. Lauren Boyle is the Senior Content Editor.
