This volume of the Advanced Structured Materials Series is dedicated to Professor Volker Ulbricht who sadly passed away on April 9, 2021. Professor Ulbricht was a dedicated researcher and teacher in the field of Continuum and Engineering Mechanics. He was closely associated with Technische Universität Dresden, Germany, for more than 50 years – first as student, then as doctoral student, and since 1992 as professor. Volker Ulbricht has made contributions in many fields of mechanics, including theory of shells, micro-polar continua, constitutive models for inelastic material behavior, advanced discretization techniques and multiscale modelling techniques with applications to the simulation of sheet metal forming processes and the analysis of composite materials.
