The Interdisciplinary Cancer Research series publishes comprehensive volumes on different cancers. It plans to present the most updated and peer-reviewed interdisciplinary chapters on cancers. This interdisciplinary book series is of special value to researchers and practitioners working on cell biology, immunology, hematology, biochemistry, genetics, oncology and related fields. This is the main concept of Cancer Immunology Project (CIP) and Network of Immunity in Infection, Malignancy and Autoimmunity (NIIMA), which are two active interest groups of the Universal Scientific Education and Research Network (USERN). The twenty-second volume of the book entitled Pathophysiology of Cancer: An Interdisciplinary Approach focuses on pathophysiology of cancer. The volume starts with a chapter on risk of cancer development, followed by other chapters on strategies to reduce the burden of cancers and molecular biology of cancer disparities. The pattern of epithelial carcinogenesis, mitochondrial energy metabolism in carcinogenesis, and the role of mitochondrial DNA mutations in cancer development are discussed in the following chapters. The obesity epidemic and cancer risk, urban road dust, genotoxicity, aberrant glycosylation, melatonin, and matrix metalloproteinases as players in cancer development and progression are explained in other chapters. The subsequent chapters discuss vascular endothelium, extracellular vesicles and extracellular matrix, circulating tumor cells, cancerassociated programmed cell death, and epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition in cancer. Importance of antioxidants, decoding metabolic changes, and effects of secondary metabolites in cancer therapy are the subjects of the last chapters.
