This is a book about religion and science, secularism and belief, about founding histories and imagined futures. It is about two movements that in important and often unsuspected ways rhyme with one another: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and secular transhumanism. It is about a specific set of people who have taken hold of these two movements and brought them together as a way to reimagine their faith, to bring an ethics and an eschatology to emerging and anticipated technologies. It is about the play of universalistic ambitions and clannish guardedness. But most of all, this is a book about speculation, and the role speculation plavs in religiosity.
