An entity that can be utilized to detect and/or quantify a biochemical molecule (analyte) is known as a biosensor. The variation in physical or chemical properties of either the analyte or the biosensor when they come in proximity or form a bond with each other is exploited for the biosensing process. The applications of biosensing are manifold (1) biomarkers, biomolecules that are physiological indicators of a disease condition need to be analyzed in vivo or in vitro for therapeutics and diagnostics (2) in environmental conservation and monitoring, markers or disruptive biomolecules like hormones and pesticides as well as in (3) agriculture and food processing, contaminant(s) have to be identified and quantified.
