تمناى وصال

Cry of attendance

تا کی به تمنای وصال تو یگانه

Till when, in the cry of attending you, the only one,

اشکم شود از هر مژه چون سیل روانه

my tears keep falling like floods from my eyelashes?

خواهد بسراید غم هجران تو یا نه

Will the sorrow of your absence ever end or not?

ای تیر غمت را دل عشاق نشانه

You who your sorrow arrow is aimed to the heart of the lovers

جمعی به تو مشغول و تو غایب زمیانه

 A whole community is engaged with you and you are absent from it

بلبل به چمن زان گل رخسار نشان دید

The nightingale saw the stunning flower distinguished in the meadow

پروانه در آتش شد و اسرار عیان دید

The butterfly went in the flames and saw the secrets [of the universe unfolded to it, behind the flames] clearly

عارف صفت وصف تو در پیر و جوان دید

The man who is referred to by The Wise saw you and your picture in every elder and young

یعنی همه جا، عکس رخ یار توان دید

It all means that everywhere it is possible to see the picture of the friend (the signs of god’s existence is plenty)

دیوانه نیم من که روم خانه به خانه

The crazy one is me, who goes to every door in search of you (I‘m the crazy one for searching for your existence, you are already there)

هر در که زنم صاحب آن خانه تویی تو

Whichever door I knock on, you are the actual owner of it

هر جا که روم پرتو کاشانه تویی تو

To wherever I go, you are the light of the ceiling

در میکده و دیر که جانانه تویی تو

In the bars and nunneries, you are the actual lover

مقصود من از کعبه و بتخانه تویی تو

You are the concept that I have in mind when I refer to Ka‘be (Muslims temple) or the temple of idols

مقصود تویی کعبه و بتخانه بهانه

You are the reason and the actual goal, Ka’be and the temple of idols both are mere excuses paths to you
