The Politics of Everybody was written at a concrete time and place with a specific political intervention in mind; yet, in reflecting upon the book’s origins and trajectory, I don’t wish to tether the book to its historical particulars. My hope is that this preface will help readers better apply the book’s ideas about gender, sexuality, and Marxism to their own contexts as the book’s wager is that, because we live within a capitalist totality, our worlds are deeply and materially intertwined.
