This volume is the record of ICIAM 2023 (International Congress of Industrial and Applied Mathematics 2023, the tenth ICIAM). It was held at Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan in August 20th–25th, 2023, with 5594 participants (4329 in-person, 1247 online. Student participants 1566) and 233 accompanying persons. It consisted of four public lectures, 34 plenary and invited talks, three SIAM prize lectures, 476 mini-symposia, 809 contributed talks, and 242 posters. The papers in this volume are authored by some of the invited speakers of ICIAM2023. This volume is a part of a series dedicated to ICIAM 2023. Other volumes will appear soon from Springer Nature. We are sure that this volume will contribute greatly to the applied mathematics community in the world. This volume was made open access by the courtesy of the organizing committee of the congress and the Japan Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. We thank very much for all who took pains to make it open access. The congress, hosted by the Japan Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (JSIAM) and the Mathematical Society of Japan (MSJ), was held at Waseda University in Tokyo Japan, under the auspices of the International Council for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM). With the greatest ever number of participants as indicated above, we may safely say that ICIAM 2023 was a great success. The number of the participants demonstrates that the enthusiasm of industrial and applied mathematics communities is getting stronger despite the pandemic in 2020–2022. The industrial aspect of the congress was enriched by, following the traditions of ICIAM, organizing a specific activity: ‘The Industry Day.’ Fourteen speakers, selected from a broad representation of different sectors, presented the results of ongoing collaborations with academia and the benefits derived from it. In addition, 19 industrial mini-symposia were scheduled during the congress. Fifteen satellite events took place before and after ICIAM2023. They covered a broad range of topics within industrial and applied mathematics. We thank greatly the efforts of the organizers of all satellite events. From the announcement of the candidacy of JSIAM in 2016, it started, with the help of MSJ, the long process involved in the planning of this complex event. Our deepest gratitude and heartiest thanks go to all the people who helped to organize this congress. A list of all the committees and people involved in this task is given below.
