Quantum computing has been on my radar for over two decades, owing to my forays into Unconventional Computing (UC) in the early 2000s; I have been harnessing biological organisms (e.g., Mycetozoa) to develop living music processors in vitro [2, 6, 7, 8]. At the time, the idea of actual quantum computing chips, with real qubits, and so on, sounded rather theoretical to me. But all of a sudden, quantum computing sprang out from the largely underestimated and underfunded UC research circles to the realms of national strategic research priorities and copious industrial investments, all over the globe. Quantum computing is mushrooming.
