Learning about hormones is a bit like doing a jigsaw puzzle without a picture on the box. You can see all the individual pieces, but you can’t figure out the whole picture until you put most of the pieces together. It is the same with hormones. You can understand the origin and actions of each individual hormone, but it is hard to get an accurate picture of how they work together in the body until you understand something about many of them. In addition, hormones interact with each other as well as with target tissues. Sorting out these interactions may at first feel like trying to use a transportation map of New York City with local and express subway lines, busses, and ferries going to all five boroughs and intersecting with each other at multiple points.
