It is said the Gita is the most significant granth of the Hindus. Is that correct?
When we talk of the Gita what first comes to mind is the Bhagavad Gita that Krishna narrated to Arjuna before the war. But in the Mahabharata and the Puranas, there are many Gitas. Early in the Mahabharata, there is a Vyad Gita, or Butcher’s Gita, where a butcher tells a Gita to a rishi. In the Shanti Parva, there is Pingala Gita where a prostitute is offering wisdom, and there is a Vichakshnu Gita where a Raja is doing the same. Gita basically means a conversation where learning is being imparted. It is written in a metre called Anustubh metre, which sounds musical while being read. Gita comes from geet, song.
