Systems biology emerged from the development of high-throughput -omics technologies and knowledge embodiment in databases, along with bioinformatic procedures enabling their interrogation, using a panoply of computational tools, in addition to mechanistic computational modeling, signal processing, and analysis in biological systems. These developments continued to be perfected in the last two decades, during which we have witnessed unprecedented breakthroughs in the transition data ! information (i.e., organized data). Today, the frontier of systems biology stands at the edge between information!knowledge (i.e., organized information) in the search for meaning, as the availability of information grows.
