Artificial intelligence (AI) is the ability of machines to simulate the intelligence capability of higher organisms. The term was first coined by John McCarthy in 1956. AI has established its prevalence in many fields like mathematics, physiology, computing, biology and psychology. Ideally, an AI system should respond logically, be self-aware, have the ability to learn from the experience, and be able to discern and respond to external environments. With deep learning and machine learning algorithms, intellect systems that can perform the activities requiring human intellect, can be developed. Advance in AI in medical and biological sciences have opened new ways for drug developments. Novel therapeutic molecules and its target action can be easily predicted and can be modified. AI helps in disease detection and makes diagnosis much faster. AI has made personalized precision medicines a reality. These approaches will make decision-making faster, with lesser errors. That can improve better risk analysis especially disease diagnosis and selecting treatment strategy. In agricultural practices, the exact combination of fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, soil management, water requirement analysis, yield prediction and overall crop management can be achieved by implementing AI interventions. Thus AI could bring about improvement in agriculture, medical research, pharmaceuticals and bio-based industries for a sustainable life. The book has 28 chapters consisting of the latest information on current status and methodologies of Artificial Intelligence in Biological Science and its applications. Chapters have been written by leading experts in the field. The book provides an in-depth understanding on the applications of AI in the biological sciences.
